Tuesday 7th January 2020][https://www.theguardian.com/education/2020/jan/07/third-cambridgeuniversity-staff-experienced-bullying]is the result of an internal survey carried out jointly by Unite, Unison and the University and
College Unions to assess the level of bullying and harassment experienced and/or witnessed
by staff during the previous 18 months. Responses were received from 3000 staff.

A year ago the Unions did a survey to get a picture of the extent of bullying at Cambridge University.

Has anything changed?

The unions were concerned about the
allegations of persistent levels of toxic
and intimidating behaviour, including
shouting, degrading comments and
targeting of individuals.
The survey found that the largest group
to have suffered bullying and harassment
were women and assistant staff – while
the largest group to exhibit bullying and
harassment were academics.

The survey also found:
21% of staff subjected to bullying or
harassment
23% of staff witnessed bullying or
harassment towards other staff
More than half of staff who
experienced bullying and harassment
did not report incidents – some because
they believed nothing would be done –
others because they feared retaliation.
